GigE Vision Camera
The Mercury GigE camera series is an industrial vision camera, with a GigE interface. GigE is the most common interface used for cameras in traditional machine vision applications. The camera is available with and without Power over Ethernet (PoE).
This model is interesting for you when your application complies with the following conditions:
- An industrial camera
- Maximum cable length of 100 meters
- Inexpensive and easy installation of cables
- Only one cable is required to connect the device (in case of PoE)
- Dimensions are: 29x29x29mm (without PoE), 29x29x38 mm (with PoE)
- Optional hardware triggering

A color camera makes use of a Bayer pattern to produce a colored image. The RGB value of every pixel is being calculated by taking the value of a pixel, in combination with all the values of neighboring pixels. This results into less sharp images than those of a monochrome camera.
Due to the RGB filter on the pixels, every single pixel, considering white light, on average has 66% less photons than a monochrome camera. Which makes a color camera less light sensitive than a monochrome one. To compensate this, the following options are available:
- Increase the amount of light
- Increase the gain
- Increase shutter speed / exposure time
- Select a more light sensitive sensor
- Select a more light sensitive lens
A GigE camera without PoE is supplied via the I/O connector. The standard GigE camera is less expensive and generates less heat. The camera is more compact than the version with a PoE because less hardware is needed. Connecting a camera without using PoE always requires a I/O cable.

This 1/3-inch format, 1.2 MP imaging device has been designed to address the challenging requirements of automotive in-cabin cameras. The new global shutter sensor allows the camera to “freeze” fast moving scene data, and ensures effective synchronization with pulsed light sources. The AR0135 sensor incorporates a new innovative global shutter pixel design, with 10X lower dark current and 4X higher shutter efficiency vs. previous generation products. These improvements allow the sensor to produce clear, low-noise images, in both low-light and bright scenes, and in high temperature environments. This performance enables the required eye tracking and gesture detection functionality in next generation automotive in-cabin systems.
